Banner Rotation Script "BRO"
The netConsole's banner rotation script, or "BRO", is an easy way to add banners to your site, whether for internal use or for generating revenue through outside banner ads. BRO loads a randomly-selected image and optional hyperlink on a webpage and tracks how many times that image has been seen and clicked.
Setting Up Banners and Configuring BRO
Once BRO has been installed via netConsole's Package Installer, you may access the configuration menu. Here you can search for specific banner entries, add or edit existing banners, or change the name and path of BRO's banner tracking page.
To add a banner listing, enter the path or URL to the banner image. Optionally, you may also provide a URL to link to the banner.
Using BRONow that BRO has been installed and configured with at least one banner listing, you can include it on a webpage using this line:
<!--#exec cgi="/cgi-bin/bro" -->Place that line of code in your webpage where you would like the rotating images to appear. Make sure the webpage is named *.shtml or is otherwise capable of running SSI includes. For more information on SSI and executing CGI scripts, please reference our Support Documentation.
Tracking Your Banner Traffic
Simply open the stats webpage you have specified when configuring BRO in a web browser. BRO tracks stats on "bro-stats.html" by default. No support is given for modifying the stats page, although editing the script /cgi-bin/bro-stats is certainly possible if you are familiar with CGI scripts.
Things to Remember
To include the banner rotation script on a webpage, you must include this line in the HTML where you want the banners to appear:
<!--#exec cgi="/cgi-bin/bro" -->Should BRO fail to work properly, we recommend that you delete and re-install it from the netConsole.
